FROM THE DESK OF
MARY V. CARTER, ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
Dear Parents, It is time for us to make arrangements for the annual Carter School of Dance recitals. It is a natural and exciting culmination of the year’s effort. I hope you will be as pleased as we are with the progress that each child has made this year. Based on the number of students enrolled in our program this year there will be four recitals for the Severna Park studios (two junior and two senior) and one recital for the Odenton location. All recitals will be held at Glen Burnie High School. Please join us in thanking them for their continued generosity in hosting our program again this year. Click here for this year’s recital schedule. Please note that one of our first considerations for assigning classes is based on putting siblings on the same day, however, this is not always possible. Please review the recital schedule carefully as many of our classes are held at the same start time in different locations and the performance times vary from date-to-date. Rehearsals are scheduled to address both technical (lighting, music, etc.) as well as costume issues and photographs and will take a large amount of time. Please have your child fed and prepared to stay as long as necessary. Note that the times listed for rehearsals on the back of this letter are the maximum time your child will need to be available. Also, it is important to note that this is your child’s only chance to see the whole recital; they will not be allowed in the audience during the recital. If possible, plan to let them stay and see the balance of the dress rehearsal. And, of course if you cannot stay with your child at the dress rehearsal, be sure another parent is responsible for him/her and his/her costumes. A recital fee for the first and second child in the family (3rd child is free) is due on April 1, 2009. Regardless of the number of dances a child participates in, the recital fee is the same. This fee eliminates the selling of tickets and entitles you to invite as many people as you like to the recitals. The recital fee covers the costs of the auditorium, printing the programs, music licensing, lighting, dance routines, special effects, postage, etc… It is most important that all recital fees, as well as costume fees, be paid on time so that we are able to cover the costs associated with the recitals. Costume purchase fees were due by November 1, 2008. The mandatory fee pays for two costumes. There is also a rental maintenance fee for each additional costume worn in the recital to cover cleaning, altering, and storage. All costumes are ordered by the studio and two of them will belong to the children after the recitals. NO COSTUMES WILL BE DELIVERED TO THE STUDENT UNLESS ACCOUNTS ARE CURRENT. If you still owe costume fees, recital fees and/or past due class tuition, please make payment arrangements immediately. Make ups for classes cancelled due to inclement weather or scheduling conflicts will be made up toward the end of our normal program year. Each class will be notified separately concerning make-up dates. If you have any questions regarding the recital or your account, please call the CSD office in Severna Park at 410-431-5228. Sincerely,
Mary V. Carter, Artistic Director
