Cecchetti Corner
The Cecchetti Council of America is a nonprofit, educational organization of ballet teachers who are dedicated to maintain, foster, promote and encourage the standards and method of ballet training of the theory established by Cav. Enrico Cecchetti, more commonly know as the Cecchetti Method of Classical Ballet.  CSD staff belonging to The Cecchetti Council of America have examined and are required to maintain membership in good standing of the East Coast Committee.

Cecchetti Method classes are designed to assist students develop body awareness, technique and musicality.  CSD students wishing to take classes in the Cecchetti Method of Classical Ballet must be at least eight years old, recommended by a CSD staff member and successfully complete the audition class(es).

The DRESS CODE  for girls is pink ballet shoes; pink tights; black leotard; hair done neatly and away from face and neck; no jewelry of leg warmers are allowed.  For boys:  black tights; white t-shirt; black shoes; white socks; and dance belt.

It is the teacher's responsibility to ensure that sufficient time and energy has been devoted towards exam work in order to ensure examining students are fully at ease and secure with the material to be demonstrated.  Each student will be evaluated on readiness to take Cecchetti examinations by their teacher.  It is important to understand that each student will work at their own pace through the syllabus and shall not be placed before an examiner prior to meeting the Grade requirements.

Student Candidates for Grade I must verbally demonstrate understanding of the syllabus and are required to physically demonstrate the combinations with proper placement of torso, hips, and legs without exceeding anatomical limitations.

Building on this, the Grade II student should demonstrate coordination of steps with correct placement of body legs, head and arms.  The development of smooth transitions should be emphasized.

In Grade III the candidate is expected to demonstrate a more mature sense of musicality and quality movement.  The development of smooth connections and the coordination of head, arms legs and body should be apparent at this level.

The Grade IV Candidate should show suppleness and smooth graceful movements.  Strength and stability in the demonstration of the pirouettes and turns should be emphasized.  They must prepare an original dance to classical music, not longer than one minute and supervised by their teacher.  The student may not use music with lyrics or choreograph the dance using set combinations from the syllabus.

Professional Level Candidates are qualified to begin the Elementary examination at an age of not less than thirteen.  They must exhibit a more professional approach using a more mature sense of poise and musicality in the connection of movement.  The mastery of beats should be stressed and the development of elevation in the big jumps should be evident by this time.
