CARTER SCHOOL of DANCE PHILOSOPHY AND VISION
Mary Carter, Artistic Director of The Carter School of Dance feels that the art of dance, when taught with care and individual attention, is the finest discipline for a child's physical and mental development. Encouraging every child's natural grace and poise, our classes are taught by professionals with many years of teaching experience.
Most pre-school and beginning classes have live accompaniment.
Mary Carter believes that her school will be a community resource for the complete dancer and dancers with the greatest success will develop a solid foundation in Ballet. This belief is further extended to rhythm development through Tap dance. For these reasons, all students are required to take a combination class of Tap and Ballet when beginning dance. The addition of Jazz dance, at an appropriate age (usually around 8 years), develops body awareness and dance fluidity. Combination classes for children will include Jazz only after the Ballet and Tap techniques are developed and/or age appropriate. Additional classes in Hip Hop, Modern, Spanish and Lyrical are available for those students who have properly developed dance basics and are in 6th grade or higher.
In addition to offering a diverse variety of dance, Carter School of Dance offers a Ballet Syllabus program for those students with the ability to concentrate on fine tuning their Ballet technique. These advanced technique classes are available only to students through audition and/or teacher recommendation. Carter School of Dance uses the Cecchetti technique in the teaching of all ballet classes. For more information on Cecchetti, visit our Cecchetti Corner page
